Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Once I started to get the hang of things, Jack decides he wants to get up in the middle of the night again. It's tough getting up for him now that I know what he's capable of doing. I went back to my log, and he hasn't woken up in the middle of the night for a couple of weeks now. He's been consistently sleeping about 7.5-8 hours - even made it just over 8.5 hours one night! He did about 5 hours Sunday night, and 6.5 hours last night. I guess that's really not too bad. I just wish he was more consistent. I've been letting him cry it out for the first 15 minutes to see if he'd fall back asleep, but no luck either day. I'm hoping tonight that he'll be back to "normal".

As for the daytime, he's still fussy. I guess if I had the option to choose, I'd pick fussy during the day over during the night. I think one of the reasons he's so fussy is because I can't seem to figure out his naps. We eat, play for a while (sing, take a walk, talk, shop, people watch, meet a friend for lunch, do our arithmetic and work on our latin - just kidding!), then try to nap - but his naps seem to only last for 30 to 40 minutes. Friends have suggested journaling what he does for a week to see his patterns, but I haven't done that yet. Maybe I'll start tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions on what I could do about the nap situation? I'm also looking for more ideas for other "waketime/playtime" things I can do with Jack, so please let me know if you have any recommendations!! Thanks!!

  1. Don't fret about the changes in his night time sleeping, it is probably just a growth spurt, so he gets hungry sooner. As for the naps, do you lay him in his crib, bassinet, bouncy seat, swing? Dalton was a great sleeper all the time, but Carson would sleep in swing or bouncy longer than just laying somewhere. Hope that helps!

  2. Sounds like you are doing great on your playtime with him. The only other things we do are sit in front of the mirror and make faces (i have that huge one in my bedroom so it makes it easy). Also, we practice rolling over- he just got it on his own a few days ago but it was fun to practice. at about 3 months we would practice in the bumbo chair for a minute or 2. also, soon he should start holdint on to a rattle for longer and we would do that. I also styled his hair since it used to be long :-) Now i let him have some alone play time each day in his crip or playmat looking at stuff above. The mobile has been a lifesaver!
